About Ida Husted Harper
Ida Husted Harper (born February 18, 1851) was an American activist and author who played a significant role in the women’s suffrage movement in the United States. She was born in Indiana and initially worked as a school teacher in Peru before starting to write woman’s columns for a Terre Haute newspaper.
Harper became associated with the National American Woman Suffrage Association in 1896 and contributed her efforts as a reporter. Throughout her career, she focused much of her writing on advocating for the ideals of the suffrage movement.
In addition to her activism, Harper had family ties to literary pursuits – her daughter, Winnifred Harper Cooley, also pursued a career as an author.
