About Hope Clarke
Hope Clarke is an American stage actress known for her performances in the New York productions or Broadway tours of Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope; Grind; West Side Story; and Hallelujah, Baby!. She also earned Drama Desk and Tony Award nominations for her choreography work in the 1992 Broadway production of Jelly’s Last Jam.
Before her fame, Clarke’s early screen credits included roles in episodes of The Jeffersons and Good Times. She also appeared in the 1977 Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby film, A Piece of the Action.
In the mid-1990s, she earned both a Tony Award for directing and the distinction of being the first African American choreographer and director of a professional touring production of the classic George Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess.
Hope Clarke was raised in Washington D.C. and New York City.
