Before pursuing a career in music, Holly studied theatre at The University of California, Los Angeles.
Throughout the 1970s, she was involved in the anti-Vietnam War Free The Army Tour as part of her commitment to social activism.
In her personal life, she had a three-year relationship with musician Meg Christian before settling into a straight relationship in 1994 and clarifying that she did not identify as bisexual.
