About Holly Herndon
Holly Herndon is a composer and musician born on March 10, 1980 in Johnson City, Tennessee. She is best known for her innovative use of computer programming to create her popular albums such as Movement and Platform. In 2010, she was awarded the Elizabeth Mills Crothers award for Best Composer for her vocal-generated piece 195.
Herndon began her studies in electronic music at Mills College and subsequently obtained a master’s degree in electronic music and recording media. She later enrolled at Stanford University to pursue a doctorate in composition in 2012.
Having grown up in Tennessee, Herndon relocated to Berlin as a teenager where she became immersed in the dance and techno scene.
