About Hilda Solis
Hilda Solis, born on October 20, 1957 in Los Angeles, California, is a prominent politician. She made history as the first Hispanic woman to serve in the U.S. Cabinet when she was appointed as the 25th U.S. Secretary of Labor in 2009. Prior to this role, she represented California’s 31st and 32nd districts in the US House of Representatives from 2001 to 2009.
Before her political career, Solis attended California State Polytechnic University in Pomona where she earned a B.A. in Political Science before pursuing her MPA at USC.
In addition to her political achievements, Solis received recognition for her contributions with notable awards such as being the first female recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2000. She has also been highly involved with labor causes and environmental work.
On a personal note, she is married to Sam H. Sayyad who owns an automobile repair center in Irwindale, California.
