About Hilda Doolittle
Hilda Doolittle, born on September 10, 1886 in Pennsylvania, was an avant-garde poet who wrote under the pen name H.D. She is known for her contributions to the Imagist movement and for poetry collections such as “Hymen” and “The God,” as well as prose works including “The Sword Went Out to Sea” and “Palimpsest.”
Before gaining recognition as a poet, she studied at Bryn Mawr College but left after three semesters to pursue her passion for writing in New York and England.
She also consulted with renowned psychologist Sigmund Freud regarding her bisexuality.
In addition to her literary pursuits, Hilda Doolittle had notable relationships with both men and women. She married and later divorced fellow poet Richard Aldington.
