About Hilary Mantel
Hilary Mantel was a renowned novelist born in England on July 6, 1952. She gained recognition for her historical fiction works and became the recipient of the Booker Prize for both “Wolf Hall” and “Bring up the Bodies,” which center around Thomas Cromwell. Additionally, Mantel authored over 10 novels and numerous short stories.
Prior to her writing career, she worked as a social worker at a geriatric hospital in her early adulthood. Her experiences traveling to remote countries like Botswana and Saudi Arabia greatly influenced her writing.
Notably, Mantel is one of only a few authors to win the Booker Prize twice. She was also featured on Time magazine’s list of The 100 Most Influential People in 2013. Tragically, she passed away at the age of 70 due to complications stemming from a stroke.
Mantel’s husband Gerald McEwen played an instrumental role in managing her business affairs and chose to give up his career in geology to support her literary endeavors.
