About Hetty Bower
Hetty Bower was a prominent political activist, born in England on September 28, 1905.
During World War II, she ran a hostel for Czechoslovakian refugees and went on to play a pivotal role in the establishment of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
Bower’s involvement in politics began at an early age when she joined the Labour Party at seventeen. She participated in significant events such as the 1926 General Strike and the 1936 Battle of Cable Street.
Notably, Bower had a close relationship with one-time Labour Party leader Ed Miliband. Her sister Cissie Rimel encouraged her to pursue her political interests further.
