About Henry Blake Fuller

Henry Blake Fuller was an American novelist and short story writer, best known for the controversial 1919 work, Bertram Cope’s Year, which subtly addresses homosexual themes. He was born on January 9, 1857 in Chicago, Illinois. His other notable works include Under the Skylights and The Cliff-Dwellers. Fuller published his first work, The Chatelaine of La Trinite, in 1892. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Eagle’s Nest Art Colony in Illinois.

In his journals, Fuller revealed his homosexual attraction to his Allison Classical Academy roommates. Many years after his death, he was posthumously inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame as a recognition for his pioneering representation of LGBTQ+ themes in literature.
