About Henrietta Maria
Henrietta Maria was born on November 25, 1609, in Paris, France. She became best known as the Queen of England, Scotland, and Ireland due to her marriage with Charles I of England. Despite being referred to as Queen Mary, she preferred using her birth name and often signed her letters with Henriette Marie R.
Prior to becoming a queen, Henrietta Maria received training in singing, dancing, and horseback riding during her childhood. Her Roman Catholic faith made her unpopular in England and prevented her from being officially crowned there.
Following the execution of Charles I in 1649, their son Charles II of England succeeded him as King.
