About Henrietta Edwards
Henrietta Edwards (born December 18, 1849 in Canada) was a prominent Canadian politician and renowned leader of the Canadian Laws Governing Women and Children organization for over thirty years. Alongside this role, she was also a co-founder of the National Council of Women of Canada and the Victorian Order of Nurses.
Prior to her political career, Henrietta collaborated with her sister Amelia on establishing the Montreal Working Girls’ Club which aimed to provide women with food and education. Her dedication to women’s rights is evidenced by her influential publications such as Legal Status of Women in Alberta (1921) and Legal Status of Canadian Women (1908).
She married physician Oliver Edwards with whom she had three children. Henrietta Edwards’ contributions have left a lasting impact on Canadian society.
