About Helen Sharman
Helen Sharman is a British chemist and astronaut, born on May 30, 1963, in England. She made history as the first Briton to travel to space and also became the first woman to visit the Mir Space Station. Her journey into space was part of the Project Juno mission.
Prior to her career as an astronaut, Sharman worked as an engineer and chemist for Mars Incorporated. In 2007, she held the distinction of being the fifth youngest person to fly in space at only 27 years old during her mission.
Sharman’s roots trace back to Sheffield where she was born and received a star on the Sheffield Walk of Fame.
