About Helen Palmer
Helen Palmer (1898-09-16) was an American children’s author best known for her popular titles, including “Do You Know What I’m Going To Do Next Saturday?” and “I Was Kissed by a Seal at the Zoo.” She was also married to the renowned author Dr. Seuss.
Prior to gaining fame as an author, Palmer graduated from Wellesley College in 1920 before meeting her future husband at Oxford University. She played a pivotal role in turning one of Dr. Seuss’ poems, “Gustav the Goldfish,” into a full-length book.
Palmer’s personal life was marked by tragedy as she struggled with a long illness and ultimately took her own life in the late 1960s. Her enduring love for Dr. Seuss endured throughout their marriage, even as he fell in love with another woman during her illness.
