Helen Hunt Jackson Feet

Helen Hunt Jackson was an influential nineteenth-century American poet, novelist, and historian. Born on October 15, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts, she is known for her notable works such as A Century of Dishonor, Ramona, and Glimpses of California.

Jackson’s writings often addressed the mistreatment of Native Americans and government mismanagement. Before gaining recognition for her literary work, she attended both the Abbott Institute and the Ipswich Female Seminary.

In 1852, Jackson married U.S. Army Captain Edward Bissell Hunt with whom she had two sons. Sadly, one of their children passed away as an infant due to a brain malady.

Notably named after her are several high schools in California as well as one fictional heroine from her novels – Ramona.
