About Helen Hoyt
Helen Hoyt (January 22, 1887 – date of death unknown) was an American poet known for her poetry collections such as Apples Here in My Basket, The Name of a Rose, and Poems of Amis. She was born in Connecticut and educated at Barnard College.
Early in her life, she served as Associate Editor of the influential literary magazine Poetry. Her individual poems “Ellis Park,” “Lamp Posts,” and “Rain at Night” are some of her well-known works. She had published works in Poetry, The Egoist, and The Masses.
Hoyt came from a prominent family; Henry M. Hoyt, her father served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1879 to 1893. She married William Whittingham Lyman Jr., who was an author and academic.
