About Helen Fisher
Helen Fisher is a Canadian-born anthropologist, behavioral expert, love and attachment theorist, and professor at Rutgers University. She is renowned for her work as the author of popular science books such as Why We Love: The Nature and Chemistry of Romantic Love and Why Him? Why Her?: Finding Real Love By Understanding Your Personality Type.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology and anthropology from New York University, Fisher went on to receive a master’s degree and a doctorate from the University of Colorado at Boulder. A notable aspect of her work revolves around physiology-based personality types where she posits four basic categories of temperament: the dopamine-driven Explorer; the serotonin-dominated Builder; the testosterone-guided Director; and the oxytocin and estrogen-led Negotiator.
Fisher was born in Canada but has lived in various locations including New York, Colorado, and New Jersey in the United States.
