About Helen B. Taussig
Helen B. Taussig was born on May 24, 1898, in Massachusetts. She was a doctor who co-developed the Blalock-Taussig shunt, a technique that saved countless infants from the deadly blue baby syndrome. Before achieving fame in the medical field, she overcame strong dyslexia in her childhood through sheer determination and patient tutoring from her father.
Taussig worked extensively with prominent U.S. physician Alfred Blalock to perfect and demonstrate the technique that would save many lives. Following the tragic loss of her mother at a young age, Helen was raised by her devoted father.
