About Heide Simonis
Heide Simonis, born on July 4, 1943 in Germany, is a prominent politician who served in the German Bundestag during the 1970s and 1980s. She made history by becoming the first female President of Germany’s northern Schleswig-Holstein state in the early 1990s.
Prior to her political career, Simonis studied economics at Kiel University and Erlangen-Nurnberg University. In addition to her political pursuits, she also served as the head of UNICEF’s German chapter from 2005 to 2008.
Born Heide Steinhardt in Bonn, Germany, she later married Udo Simonis, a university faculty member.
