About Happy Rockefeller
Happy Rockefeller was born on June 9, 1926, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and is known for her role as the wife of Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller, the 41st Vice President of the United States. She also served as a public delegate to the United Nations during the early 1990s.
Prior to marrying Nelson Rockefeller, Happy was married to Dr. James Murphy in 1945 with whom she had four children before divorcing in 1963. In July of that same year, she married Nelson Rockefeller just one month after her divorce from Murphy.
In addition to her political connections through marriage and diplomatic work at the UN, Happy is also recognized for overcoming breast cancer following a double mastectomy in 1974.
She had two sons with Nelson Rockefeller—Nelson Jr. and Mark—and came into their family dynamic with experiences from a previous short-lived marriage with Dr. James Murphy.
