About Hannah Weiner
Hannah Weiner (born November 4, 1928) was an American poet known for her contributions to the Language Poetry movement. She was born in Rhode Island and later graduated from Radcliffe College in 1950 before pursuing a career as a poet.
Weiner published her debut poetry collection two decades after graduating, titled “The Fast.” She went on to release several other notable works including “Spoke” and “Clairvoyant Journal.”
One of her most significant pieces, “Little Books/Indians,” addressed political issues affecting Native Americans, reflecting Weiner’s engagement with social and cultural topics.
Weiner’s life was marked by personal challenges as she struggled with schizophrenia, which likely influenced her exploration of psychic channeling and automatic writing in her work.
Born Hannah Finegold in Providence, Rhode Island, Weiner married but later divorced after four years. Her legacy lives on through the impact of her literary contributions to American poetry.
