About Han Aiping
Han Aiping (born April 22, 1962 in Wuhan, China) was a former Chinese badminton player known for her successful career in the 1980s and for being one of the greatest female badminton players in history.
She won the IBF World Championships twice and also led Chinese teams to victory in women’s world team competitions and in the Olympics. On October 16th, 2019, she passed away due to lung cancer.
Aiping began her badminton training at the age of ten at the Wuhan Amateur Sports School. She joined the Hubei provincial team in 1974, showing great talent by finishing second at the Chinese national championships in 1977. Joining the National Chinese team when she was just sixteen years old marked a significant turning point as her career took off in 1982.
In addition to being an accomplished player, Han Aiping was also recognized for her contributions to badminton coaching following retirement. Notably, she was posthumously honored with induction into the Badminton Hall of Fame in 1998. She leaves behind two daughters from her marriage to Guo Ming: Guo Yushan who became a professional badminton player like her mother and Han Yalu who pursued tennis.
