About Hallie Quinn Brown
Hallie Quinn Brown was an African-American educator and writer, born on March 10, 1849 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is known for founding the Colored Women’s League of Washington D.C. and serving as the president of the Ohio State Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs from 1905 to 1912.
Prior to her fame, Brown earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University in Ohio. She also represented the United States at the International Congress of Women held in London in 1899.
Brown was born into a family with six children to Frances Jane Scroggins and Thomas Arthur Brown who were freed slaves.
