About Halimah Yacob
Halimah Yacob (born August 23, 1954) is a Singaporean politician who made history by becoming the first female President of Singapore in September 2017.
Prior to her presidency, Yacob held prominent positions such as Speaker of Parliament and head of the National Trades Union Congress. She overcame personal adversity, having been raised by her mother after her father’s untimely death and later earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the National University of Singapore in 1981.
In recognition of her significant contributions to Singaporean society, she has received various accolades including the Her World Woman of the Year Award and the AWARE Heroine Award. Yacob is also known for her marriage to Mohammed Abdullah Alhabshee with whom she shares five children.
