About Gwendolyn MacEwan
Gwendolyn MacEwan (1941-09-01) was a Canadian poet, novelist, children’s book author, and translator known for her works including The Fire-Eaters and Afterworlds. She received the prestigious Governor General’s Award in 1969.
MacEwan grew up in Toronto with a mentally disturbed mother and an alcoholic father. She published her first poem at age seventeen.
She was married twice: first to poet Milton Acorn and then to Niko Tsingos, a Greek musician. MacEwan died in her forties from complications of alcoholism.
