About Gwen Davis
Gwen Davis was an American author and poet, born on May 11, 1936 in Pennsylvania. She is known for her more than a dozen novels, including West of Paradise, The Motherland, and Silk Lady. Her novel The Pretenders, published in 1969, became an instant bestseller.
Before gaining fame as a writer, Davis studied creative writing at Stanford University and released her debut work Naked in Babylon in 1960.
A noteworthy aspect of Davis’s career includes being sued by California psychologist E. Paul Bindrim for allegedly basing a character in her 1971 novel Touching on him.
Davis was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in New York City. She married businessman Don Mitchell.
