Gurinder Chadha, born on January 10, 1960 in Nairobi, Kenya, is a Sikh Indian director known for her work on the sleeper hit “Bend It Like Beckham” and “Bride and Prejudice”. Before gaining fame as a director, she worked as a BBC Radio reporter before transitioning to film production in 1993. Her 2002 hit “Bend It Like Beckham” became the highest-grossing British-distributed film ever in the UK box office at the time. Chadha’s family was part of the Indian diaspora in East Africa.
