About Gunta Stolzl
Gunta Stolzl was a German textile artist born on March 5, 1897. She is renowned for being the only female master in the Bauhaus school’s weaving workshop. Stolzl played a crucial role in the school’s shift from individual pictorial works to modern industrial designs.
Prior to her fame, she served as a volunteer nurse for the Red Cross during World War I. In 1967, her designs were acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum, leading to major national and international exhibitions of her work.
Stolzl was married to Israeli architecture student Arieh Sharon from 1929 until 1936, and they had a daughter named Yael.
