Gretchen Christopher is a pop singer born on February 29, 1940, in Olympia, Washington. She is best known as the lead singer of the pop band The Fleetwoods and for their hit single “Come Softly to Me” released in 1959.
Before gaining fame with The Fleetwoods, Gretchen recorded “Come Softly” following requests from her school classmates for copies of the original track. The success of this song helped propel her career forward.
Notably, she and The Fleetwoods achieved widespread acclaim with their #1 single “Mr. Blue.”
