Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna of Russia was a member of the Russian royal family, born on November 11, 1899 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She was the third daughter of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra.

Maria is known for her tragic fate during the Russian Revolution of 1917, when she and her family were assassinated by Bolshevik revolutionaries. Following her death, she was canonized as a passion bearer by the Russian Orthodox Church.

Despite her young age, Maria displayed qualities of kindness and compassion. She expressed a desire to become a Red Cross nurse like her older sisters but instead became the patroness of a hospital and regularly visited wounded soldiers housed there.
