About Grace Raymond Hebard

Grace Raymond Hebard (born July 2, 1861 in Clinton, Iowa) was an American historian, suffragist, scholar and writer known for her influential work on Sacajawea published in 1933. She also authored other important publications such as The Government of Wyoming, Washakie, and The Pathbreakers from River to Ocean. Prior to her career as a historian, she studied civil engineering at the University of Iowa before obtaining a PhD in political science from Illinois Wesleyan University.

In addition to her academic contributions, Hebard was an active member of the Wyoming Historical Association and played a key role establishing the state branch of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She came from a family with strong ties to religious and educational pursuits; born to Rev. George Diah Alonzo Hebard and Margaret E. Dominick Hebard in Clinton, Iowa.
