Grace Gealey, born on July 26, 1984 in Butler, Pennsylvania, is a well-known TV actress. She gained fame for her portrayal of Anika Calhoun on the musical soap opera Empire and has also made a name for herself in professional theatrical work, with notable performances in off-Broadway and Chicago productions such as Venus Flytrap and Tartuffe.
Prior to her successful acting career, she earned an undergraduate degree in Theater from the University at South Florida and later obtained an MFA in Acting from the University of California, Irvine.
Gealey’s television debut came with her role on Empire when it began airing on the Fox network in 2015. Additionally, she comes from a family where both parents are deaf. Born in Butler, Pennsylvania and raised primarily in the Cayman Islands.
In April 2016 Grace married her Empire co-star Trai Byers. The couple welcomed their son together in April 2023.
