About Gladys Marin
Gladys Marin was a Chilean political activist and politician, best known for her role as the President of the Communist Party of Chile from 2002 until her passing in 2005. She fiercely opposed the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet.
Marin was born on July 16, 1941, in Chile to parents who were a peasant and a school teacher. In 1963, she got married and later had two children.
In addition to her leadership within the Communist Party, Marin made history by running for president of Chile in 1999. Sadly, she passed away from brain cancer during her presidency.
