About Gioconda Vessichelli
Gioconda Vessichelli (born January 16, 1980) is an Italian opera singer, lyricist, actress, and composer known for creating the BollywoOPERA genre of music. She gained prominence through songs such as “Itni Si Baat Hai” and “Contigo Bom Bom.” Vessichelli’s work focuses on musical fusion and her innovative approach led her to be the first non-Indian woman to receive the Indian Women Award in 2014.
Prior to gaining fame, Vessichelli earned degrees in opera and musicology from the Italian conservatory Santa Cecilia. Notably, she garnered recognition from renowned opera figures like Luciano Pavarotti who personally mentored her due to her talent.
Vessichelli has achieved success in various international opera competitions including Anemos in 1998, Albanese in 2002, and Leoncavallo in 2013. Despite familial pressure to pursue a career in science, she pursued her passion for singing since childhood and left home as a teenager to support herself by busking on the streets.
