About Gioconda Belli
Gioconda Belli is a Nicaraguan poet, novelist, and author known for her works such as “Verse Sobre la Grama,” “Waslala,” and “Amor insurrecto.” She was born on December 9, 1948 in Managua, Nicaragua. Before gaining recognition for her literary work, she studied in Madrid, Spain and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Belli has received numerous literary honors including the Biblioteca Breve and Casa de las Americas awards. Her gender-themed novel “La Mujer Habitada,” published in 1988, was translated into many languages and included in reading lists at several American universities.
She married American journalist Charles Castaldi and they raised four children together.
