About Gillian Ayres
Gillian Ayres is an English painter known for her vibrant and expressive works. Born on February 3, 1930 in England, she studied at the Camberwell School of Art from 1946 to 1950.
Ayres produced notable paintings such as “Anthony and Cleopatra” in 1982 and “A Midsummer Night” in 1990. Her contributions to the art world were recognized when she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2011 Birthday Honours.
Prior to gaining recognition as a painter, Ayres worked as a teacher at the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham from 1959 to 1965.
She was married to painter Henry Mundy for almost thirty years and they had two sons together.
