About Gertrude Baniszewski
Gertrude Baniszewski, born on September 19, 1929 in Indiana, was a notorious criminal known for her involvement in the torture and murder of teenage girl Sylvia Likens in 1965. Along with her own children and kids from her neighborhood, she oversaw the heinous crimes against Likens. She was found guilty of first degree murder and handed a life sentence, although she was paroled after serving 14 years.
Prior to her criminal activities, Baniszewski hailed from Indianapolis, Indiana and dropped out of high school at age 16 to enter into marriage. After being released from prison, she assumed the alias Nadine Van Fossan before passing away five years later due to lung cancer.
Her family life included having six children with John Baniszewski Sr., whom she was married to from 1945 to 1955. Following this period, she remarried Edward Guthrie and had one child with him.
