About Geri Allen
Geri Allen was a renowned jazz artist, pianist, and composer born on June 12, 1957 in Michigan. She gained recognition for her album “A Child is Born,” released in 2011. Additionally, she made significant contributions to the soundtrack for Beah: A Black Woman Speaks, which earned a Peabody Award.
Prior to her fame as a musician, Geri Allen attended both Howard University and the University of Pittsburgh. Following her education, she became an Associate Professor of Music and the Director of the jazz Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh.
A noteworthy highlight in her career includes being featured in “Live Music, Community & Social Conscience,” a documentary from 2007 that explored how music connects all cultures and people.
Throughout her life and career, Geri Allen always credited her parents – Mount Vernell Allen Jr. and Barbara Jean Allen – as substantial influences on her journey.
