About Georgia Holt
Georgia Holt was a prominent figure born in Kensett, Arkansas on June 9, 1926. Although she is most well-known for being the mother of renowned pop singer and actress Cher, she also made a name for herself as an entertainer.
During the 1950s and ’60s, Holt appeared in episodes of popular television shows such as I Love Lucy and The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet. Even into her eighties, she continued to pursue her passion for music by recording an album titled Honky Tonk Woman which was released in 2013.
Holt’s early experiences with performing date back to the early 1930s when she sang on an Oklahoma City radio broadcast at just ten years old. She later went on to perform with Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys band.
In addition to her entertainment career, Georgia Holt had a colorful personal life. She was married four times and remarkably tied the knot twice with two of her husbands. One of these marriages resulted in Cher; her first husband is John Sarkisian.
A testament to their close relationship, Cher produced a television documentary called Dear Mom, Love Cher as a tribute to Holt’s life and legacy.
