Gail Carson Levine (born September 17, 1947 in New York City, New York) is a renowned young adult author. She gained recognition for her debut novel, Ella Enchanted, which earned her the prestigious Newbery Honor award in 1998.

Prior to gaining literary success, Levine embarked on her writing journey in 1987. Despite facing numerous rejections from publishers, she persevered and eventually found success with her works.

In addition to Ella Enchanted, Levine published her second book titled Dave at Night in 1999. Her upbringing was under the care of David and Sylvia Levine in New York City.
