About Gabriela Andersen-Schiess
Gabriela Andersen-Schiess (born May 20, 1945) is a former long-distance runner from Zurich, Switzerland. She gained fame for her memorable finish at the first women’s Olympic marathon during the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where she staggered into the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum while suffering from dehydration.
Prior to her running career, Andersen-Schiess lived in Sun Valley, Idaho and worked as a ski instructor. During the Olympic marathon, she finished 37th out of 44 competitors with a time of 2 hours, 48 minutes and 42 seconds.
Her husband is named Richard Andersen.
