About G.E.M.
Gloria Tang Tsz-Kei, commonly known by her stage name G.E.M., was born on August 16, 1991 in Shanghai, China. She is a Chinese pop singer-songwriter who gained fame with her self-titled EP debut in 2008.
Her breakthrough came in 2014 when she appeared on the television series I Am a Singer during its second season. Since her debut, G.E.M. has released over five albums and has established herself as one of the leading figures in the Chinese music industry.
From a young age, G.E.M. showed great musical talent; at just seven years old she was already writing songs and competing in school singing competitions. Her early success came when she won first place at the Spice it Up competition in 2006, catching the eye of future manager Tan Chang.
In addition to her music career, G.E.M. also ventured into acting – making her film debut in Trick or Cheat (2009) and then appearing in Hollywood’s animated film Charming (2017).
Born in Shanghai and raised into a musical family where everyone had ties to music – including her mother graduating from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and other family members being musicians – it’s no surprise that G.E.M.’s passion for music bloomed early on.
