About Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti
Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, born on October 25, 1900 in Abeokuta, Nigeria, was a prominent civil rights leader and women’s rights activist. She championed the cause of Nigerian women’s right to vote and was instrumental in the abolition of separate tax rates for women in Nigeria.
Ransome-Kuti pursued her education in England before returning to Nigeria where she became actively involved in politics. She also served as a member of the Western House of Chiefs of Nigeria.
In addition to her advocacy work, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was married to Reverend Israel Oludotun Ransome Kuti.
