Fredricka Whitfield (born May 31, 1965) is an American journalist known for her work as a reporter and news anchor for CNN. She hosted the weekend daytime edition of CNN Newsroom and gained recognition for being the first anchor nationally to break the news of the death of former president Ronald Reagan.
Prior to her time at CNN, Whitfield worked as a correspondent for NBC News, based out of Atlanta, from 1995 to 2001. Notably, she filed a story from the front lines of the Persian Gulf during her career.
Whitfield’s family background is also noteworthy; she married John Glenn and is the daughter of Olympian Mal Whitfield.
