About Francesca Woodman
Francesca Woodman was an American photographer born on April 3, 1958, in Colorado. She is known for her work capturing young women, often including herself, and other female models in black and white. Her photography often featured nude subjects merging with their surroundings.
Woodman attended the Rhode Island School of Design starting in 1975 and studied in Rome from 1977 to 1978. She primarily used medium format cameras to create over 10,000 negatives during her career as a photographer. Tragically, Woodman died by suicide in 1981, but her parents preserved her body of work.
Her parents are artists George Woodman and Betty Woodman; she also had an older brother named Charles.
