Francesca Lia Block is a novelist born on December 3, 1962, in Los Angeles, California. She is the recipient of the Margaret A. Edwards Award and is known for her influential works such as Weetzie Bat (2009), Baby Be-Bop (1996), and Am I Blue?: Coming Out From the Silence (1995). Her writing explores themes of homosexuality, AIDS, and mixed-race families.
Block penned her first novel, Weetzie Bat, while still a student at the University of California- Berkeley. This work marked the beginning of her acclaimed series known as Dangerous Angels.
