Frances Willard Feet

Frances Willard was an American women’s suffragist born on September 28, 1839 in Churchville, New York. She is known for her instrumental role in helping to pass the 18th and 19th amendments to the United States Constitution. Before becoming a prominent activist, she attended North Western Female College and pursued a career as a teacher.

In addition to her advocacy for women’s suffrage, Willard also fought for labor rights and temperance. Her tireless efforts in these causes led to her being the first woman memorialized in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol.

Hailing from Churchville, New York, Frances was born to Josiah Flint Willard and Mary Thompson Hill Willard.
