Frances Sargent Osgood was a nineteenth-century American poet and author born on June 18, 1811, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was one of the best-known female writers of her generation, known for popular works like The Casket of Fate and Puss in Boots.
Osgood began her writing career at the age of fourteen when her work was accepted by Juvenile Miscellany, a children’s poetry periodical. She married Samuel Stillman Osgood in 1835 and eventually died from tuberculosis in 1850.
