About Fofi Gennimata
Fofi Gennimata, born on November 17, 1964, in Greece, is a prominent Greek politician known for her contributions to the Panhellenic Socialist Movement. She co-founded both the Democratic Alignment and the Movement for Change.
Prior to her political career, Gennimata was involved with the socialist union during her time at the University of Athens. Additionally, she worked as a banker for the National Bank of Greece starting in 1986 before making her debut in politics as a member of Hellenic Parliament for PASOK representing the Athens A constituency in 2000. After resigning from this position in 2002 to pursue local elections, she became involved in various governmental roles under Prime Minister George Papandreou. In particular, she served as Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare (beginning in 2009) and later as Alternate Minister of Education, Lifelong Learning, and Religious Affairs (beginning in 2010).
Gennimata’s family background also played an influential role; being born into a politically active household where her father Georgios Gennimatas was a notable figure within the Panhellenic Socialist Movement. Fofi herself married Andreas Tsounis with whom she had three children.
