About Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale was a celebrated British social reformer and statistician, born on May 12, 1820 in Florence, Italy. She is considered the founder of modern nursing and is known for her work during the Crimean War.
Prior to fame, Nightingale felt called by God to enter nursing and served as the superintendent at the Institute for the Care of Sick Gentlewomen in London before the Crimean War began.
During her time in India later in life, she studied sanitation’s effects on rural life and contributed to improving the country’s health services and medical care.
She earned the moniker “The Lady with the Lamp” during her service as a nurse in Crimea due to her habit of making rounds at night.
Nightingale’s parents were Frances Smith and William Edward Nightingale.
