Florence Mills (January 25, 1896 – November 1, 1927) was an American stage actress born in Washington, D.C. She rose to fame as a vaudeville and Broadway performer, known for her roles in Shuffle Along and Lew Leslie’s Blackbirds. Highlights of her career include renowned renditions of “I’m Cravin’ for that Kind of Love” and “I’m a Little Blackbird Looking for a Bluebird.”
Before gaining widespread recognition, Mills and her two sisters formed the vaudeville act The Mills Sisters.
Mills tragically passed away at the young age of thirty-two due to tuberculosis. She was survived by her parents Nellie Simon and John Winfrey.
